BEER!

I now have a hobby of attending beer festivals and trying so many new flavors that I have really expanded my likings. I like most porters and stouts that I have tried. I am a huge fan of belgian wheat beers. Some of my favs are Lake Superior Kayak Kolsch, Spotted Cow, South Shore Honey Pilsner, Summit (almost all of them except the super hoppy ones). I also standby with Leinies HoneyWeiss, Corona, or Blue Moon and I like most Hefeweizens.
*I really heart beer*

For those who like really hoppy beer, try Bell's Two Hearted Ale...you will love it.

This weekend I'm going work on my Beer Advocate Top 100 beers list and try out one of the first 5 that I can find.

1. Trappist Westvleteren 12 - Quadruple (Quad)
2. The Abyss - Russian Imperial Stout
3. Dark Lord Imperial Stout - Russian Imperial Stout
4. Pliny The Younger - American Double
5. Kate The Great - Russian Imperial Stout

I'll report back with what I found and what I thought.

Last week when Nate and I were replacing the brakes in the Pilot, I picked up a 6-pack of Michelob Honey Lager. The honey was very apparent and it was sweeter than Leinenkugel's Honeyweiss, which I liked. It wasn't something I could drink a whole 6-pack at once of, but I had a couple each night until they were gone and I enjoyed them. I went to the Michelob website and it looks like they've expanded their seasonal beers quite a bit, so I'm looking forward to trying more of them. I'm sure some will hack on the fact that the beers are "Michelob" brand = mass marketed crap, but when I'm buying beer at a liquor store, I just have a hard time dropping $12 on a 4 or 6-pack of something I might not like at all.

Just a thought, but since it's getting too cold for Porky's, perhaps we should see if we can find a restaurant that has a really good selection of beers available, so those that are too young to drink can simply order food and those that are able to have a couple are able to experiment from week to week with a beer or 2 (it's all about moderation since we're driving home) without committing to a handful of beers that might not be our taste. Any thoughts or ideas of a place or two? Seems to me there was a chain-type restaurant in Eau Claire that served Jack Daniels flavored burgers and stuff that had a really large selection (like 100+) of beers, but I can't think of what the place was called...

Chili's has the Jack Burgers.

Old Chicago (where the evo crew hangs out apparently) is known for their insane selection of beers. They apparently have some sort of club where you try to try ALL their beers, 100 some odd.

Just in case any of you might be interested....I ran across this tonight. BEER of the Month Club!! Here It's a little spendy, but if you do a full year at a time you get a 12 pack per month with 3 bottles of 4 different beers for $2.77 a beer, which isn't too bad if you're interested in trying a bunch of new beers.
