Both Headlights out?

Came out of the store tonight and both my low beam Halogen headlights were out This ever happen to anyone? Is there a fuse for the headlights? I'll check the manual. I can't believe they would both burn out at the same time.

I've had it happen to me in my previous car. Thought it was a fuse, the switch, etc but it just ended up being a weird coincidence that both bulbs burned out at the same time. If you haven't done any mods that would affect the headlights, there's no real reason for the fuse to blow, so I'd swap the bulbs first.

When I had Silverstars on my 3, both bulbs burned out within about 4 hours of each other. So, it's possible. More likely than blowing a fuse, I'd think.

If your highbeams still work, it's definitely the bulbs and not a fuse.

Makes sense. I checked the interior fuse and they were good. The fuse under the hood I can't tell. I think you are right, I'll change one bulb and see if that's it. Any advice on changing bulbs? Maybe find some small hands...

changing headlights is easy. just remember not to touch the bulbs

Use an icredibly long flat-head screwdriver. I have big, fat hands and it seemed to help me.

Same thing happened on my 88 lincoln. Driving changed back to low beams and........ nothing there but lots of dark.

There is definitely a trick to getting bulbs out on the 3. The protege uses a similar spring clip mechanism, but for whatever reason it's not nearly as big of a pain to figure out. If you haven't already, look up some pics of the mechanism--it will help immensely in not only removing the bulbs, but reinstalling them also. Fumbling around inside the housing can be frustrating if you don't know what you're trying to accomplish with that stupid thing! lol

Yup, both lights were blown. Must have happened within a very short time of each other. Took about 20mins to replace the bulbs. Drivers side was actually easier than passanger side. Push clip in, over, and up. Swings open like a door.

HID's are on my list, next time. Thanks for the help.
