Car of the Decade?

I know all you guys will hate on me and bash me, but im gonna go ahead and throw the civic Si out there. Yes, there was models of it back in the late 80s and early 90's, then they stopped and brought it back. I honestly thing the car was a major player in the whole "import revolution" game. Its made huge progress in the last 10 years also.

Let the Civic bashing begin!!!!

Civic bashing aside, the Si brings nothing new to the game. It's just a FWD hatch with mediocre power and decent handling--it just has more history than most. Plus, I guarantee a man on the street poll would reveal MAYBE 10% of people even know what an Si is. Even less would know how it's different from their mom's civic.

What Jay said, it may have brought some attention to the import market, but its far from a revolutionary car in any way, and very very under the radar so to speak.

i'll argue on the side of the Civic for a moment. When the Si was first released, it was a great car. Excellent handling, decent power (for the time) and still about as reliable as hell. Then came the 2nd gen hatch, and it was still fairly popular. The Si went away for a while, and then..... the 3rd Si was out. That car HIT. It was right in the time that the SE-R SpecV was out, the DSMs were hitting the 2g stride, and the Type-R was holding it down for Acura. Problem was.... all that happened in the 90's. By the time the first Si was released in the 2000's decade, the WRX and Evo were battling it out, and the Si was getting its ass handed to it by the Protege. That Si was a HUGE mistake on Hondas part. They rectified it with the new generation, but now everyone and their mother makes a car that will work the Si over. Sadly, it just isn't a player anymore.

I had thought the 1st Generation Prius was here before 2000. Since it was not, I will agree it should be the Prius.

From what I remember, the Rabbit GTI predated the Civic Si and really started the market.

Here's a left fielder for car that defined the decade..... the Hummer h2. When it hit the market, gas was cheap, the economy was high on imaginary investments, and it was the epitome of utter excess. And when it all came crashing down, the h2 was the pariah, roundly lambasted for the exact reason it was made popular, ultimately causing GM to sell a once noble label to the Chinese.

I actually don't disagree with that. The hummer encompassed our obsession with the huge SUV and it made housewives feel like GIs lol. Car of the decade though? Idk...

Hummer was never noble, even back when it was just the original H1. Only assholes drive them, and Hummers aren't even particularly good at offroading. The spare tire cover on some Land Rovers describes it best: "Hummer Recovery Vehicle".

Well, it's something to think of. Think of the Escalade for example. No longer was a German 3 pointed star the symbol of success..... now it was a giant rebadged Suburban. Enough of an influence to revitalize a brand, which allowed things like the CTS-V to happen.

I can only partially agree with that...within some communities and ethnic groups, yes, rollin an Escalade on dubs meant you made it big. For others (namely, the white-collar, upper-management types) it's still all about Mercedes and BMW.
