Help! Lap Top issues

Hmm I guess I don't fully understand what you mean Nate. The computer is pnly about 2 months old though.

I will delete AVG tonight and see what that does. I will post up as soon as I figure out what happens with that.

A driver won't cause an issue like she's having. If it got to the Windows loading screen first then went black, that would be a driver issue. The way I understand it is the screen is just black and stays that way when she turns it on.

You are correct Matt. At first I thought it was something my desk top did... If I had any disk or flas drive or my camera memory card in the computer when I turned it on, the screen would be black with just a small flashing white line on it until I took it out, but it doesn't matter on my lap top whether or not there is a disc in it, it still doesn't work.

When you turn it on and it stays black do the caps lock or number lock work, meaning can you press them and the lights turn on and off?

I haven't tried that actually. I can always hear it working and "thinking" but the screen never comes on. The light come on and off to let me know that its on or off and whether or not its plugged in and what not. Dunno if that helps. I'll check the others when I get home though.

Not sure if I mentioned this before or not, but once the monitor and wifi come on, they stay on so long as I don't close or turn the computer off. Not sure if that helps.

well that is a good point you would see something if it was a driver. But you see nothing at all?

do you hear start up sounds or dose the fan come on??

Tauni, try this: The next time the screen stays dark when you start the computer up, get a flashlight and shine it at the screen. Look carefully for if there's anything being displayed on the screen (Windows logo, text, etc.). If you can see stuff on the screen, then you definitely have a hardware problem. If you can't see anything, then it might be as simple as a loose cable internally.

SO I think so far deleting the AVG has helped. I'll have to keep trying and see what happens. Will keep ya posted...

Tauni,

My wife had the same issue with her Compaq Persario V3000. Here is the exact qoute from the their website:

HP has identified a hardware issue with certain HP Pavilion dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 and Compaq Presario V3000/V6000 series notebook PCs, and has also released a new BIOS for these notebook PCs, version F.39 for dv2000/V3000, and version F.3D for dv6000/dv9000/V6000.

I'm not sure if your model number falls under this or not (because additionally it only affected certain P/N) but here is the link on how to find out if your laptop falls under this free repair

if the link doesn't work here is the direct copy and paste: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...77&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3193141

Supposedly the new BIOS fixes this issue but it didn't for my wife. Anyways hopes this helped.:KANE:

So after I deleted AVG, I had to restart the comp. It restarted just fine. Then I shut it for a bit to go do some chores and it did the same thing of not showing up. So I shut it off and then it came back on again. When it came back on it ran the same diag thing as before. Haven't shut it or turned it off since then, but it seems like its getting close to fixed

No such luck... still broken this morning....

On the back of my computer it says the following:

Product: Presario F700
F768WM 1 year warranty
S/N: CNF8157980

Edit: I talked to those bitches over at Compaq again and this is what they told me to try:

1. (The thing they claim will most likely fix it) Unplug power cord and remove battery. With them removed, hold power button down for about a min. They said this might work because sometimes there gets to be a lot of power built up or something like that and it makes the monitor not turn on.

2. Rip and reinstall the driver. She explained to me how to do this but not why really.

After more attempts at other things, they are sending me a box and putting my warranty to use =[ I made very sure I will not have to fork over a single dime before I agreed, and they "said" 7-9 business days... yahhh... we'll see.

Compaq/HP tech support is the worst in the business, the warranty service could be better but you should be treated well. Turn around time is about what they tell you, rarely does it exceed their estimate.

Did they tell you to remove the hard drive before shipping it? Make sure you back up your stuff that you can't afford to lose and remove any personal data from the computer that you don't want anyone else to see.

OK I'm hoping you are right on the turn around time thing Matt. As soon as I started talking to tech support people instead of customer service people they were much more helpful. At this point I'm REALLY thinking its going to be just a loose connection, as none of the stuff they had me do with the actual computer seemed to help.

They told me to back up all my shit. I don't know how to remove a hard drive, and IDK if they would need that or what, but yah. I don't have much on there except pics, which won't be difficult to back up, and I have most of them backed up already. Other than that, its really just school stuff thats left on there.
