Injen CAI -> SRI?

Anyone here ever given this a shot? From the bit of reading I've done, it seems like it might be useful, if only to facilitate easier filter cleaning (easier cleaning means I'll clean it more often instead of never...lol). It also seems like it'd be a pretty simple job to fab up a little heat shield to section off the filter area from the rest of the engine bay. Same with some ducting to force cool air from the front bumper vent, up over the filter. I've got a section of 2.75" aluminum tubing and I was going to order a new filter anyways, so it'll be an easy experiment, but just thought I'd see if anyone local has tried this before.

cold air will almost always be better than short ram.. but .. on our cars.. cold air or short ram makes pretty much no difference.. you just get a louder bov noise and that's about it if your looking for something easier to clean just get a k&n drop in

I don't have the stock airbox anymore. I've also heard that a short ram can give us a bit better throttle response.

CAI gains on a turbo system are rarely noticed/realized based on how hot the air charge is leaving the turbo into the I/C. I would say go for the short ram for the spooling effects.

Well, I did this mod kinda half-assed tonight. Just pulled off the tube that runs down into the wheelwell, and stuck a new Fujita filter onto the MAF sensor housing. Currently, everything is just sitting in place, but nothing can really move--especially with my poly motor mounts.

I've got an idea on how to fab up a bracket that will hold the filter in place, but that will have to wait till after this weekend. I'll post up a how-to once I get the kinks worked out.

Do you feel confident driving like that for the camping trip?

Yeah--as far as I can tell, it's every bit as solid as it was when it was in CAI mode. Anything that would cause a hose to come loose as it is now, would've done the same if it was in it's stock form. Maybe I'll toss a nut driver with an 8mm socket in my glovebox just in case... lol

Well it held up alright. I assume no trouble on the way home either?

Nope, I even tested it all the way up to 130+ just to make sure ;)

It feels like she might be running a bit on the rich side though, so maybe having the MAFS located directly after the filter is not ideal for proper air metering.

Also, I noticed that the intake has a rather abrupt transition from 2.75" to 2.25" right before the turbo, so I'm tempted to fab up a custom piece of piping that will smooth that transition. If I'm running it in SRI mode, I should only need one gentle bend in the tubing, so it should be pretty simple.
