Okay, so I was looking at my extended warranty guidelines and I guess I have a $100 deductible... WTF? Anyways... I've been contemplating full axel back exhaust and the hiboost FMIC kit with hardpipes and the HKS blowoff.... need some opinions. I don't exactly have the money for all of it right at the moment, but I really don't find much use in a warranty if I have to pay everytime I take it in anyways. :cheer:

If its your daily driver I'd be tempted to say try and leave it mostly stock, unless you wouldn't mind paying for a Major repair (engine/drivetrain), depends on what exactly the warranty covers too...

At the same time I'd say f the warranty and MOD IT!! ::crafty:

If you have another vehicle and could let it sit a while till you fix it IF something were to break then it wouldn't be such a big deal...

How many years/miles left on the warranty? I don't know if it's what you had in mind, but remember that returning a warranty is going to knock a couple payments off the end of the loan (depending on the prorated value of the warranty) instead of getting you a check in your pocket.

As for the mods, unless the exhaust is purely a cosmetic mod, I'd go for a midpipe instead, and work your way back. Even a catback is going to net you minimal gains compared to down/midpipes--the cats are the real restriction on a stock exhaust, and the s-pipe is kind of a bitch to replace.

For warranty to be voided, they'd have to prove what you did aftermarket-wise caused it. (See Magnuson-Moss Act). That being said, some dealers will refuse to touch it if they see something aftermarket.

IMO, if you did exhaust, Axle-back, cat-back, or turbo-back (I'd go turbo-back if you want gains) you're pretty safe. All that is after the motor so it's pretty hard to blame exhaust for a blown motor. You could probably also replace the BOV no problem. But relocating the intercooler would cause the most problems warranty-wise.

I completely agree with silver6.. we deal with warr. issues all the time. and the magnuson-moss warr. act really helps out alot.. but I love my factory warr... I only have 10k miles left though :( got a new turbo out of it though :)

Yea, I have 45k miles left on my warranty... or til 2010. I agree on the whole issue of the intercooler possibly causing problems, it is just so damn tempting with the fact that I had a .6 second gain at the track with the cooler weather we had the last day- it doesn't feel as fast in the summer weather by far. Maybe I will just do hardpipes and a blowoff for now then? Good idea on the midpipe, since my axel back has already been upgraded.

get a catless mid-pipe you'll gain approx 10hp's well worth it. free up the exhaust! if not either smic upgrade or fmic, if you only boost 10 to 12 psi an smic will be just fine
