My car drive like a champ

my 1996 car can start but it drive like a champ untill it gets to temperature when i gets to temperature the red light and stop sighns appeared. it will turn off but will start up right away and run till i get to the next stop. How do you know the problem? And Is the electric problem?Is a general code reader can test the problem
