Non-Fouler trick on a MSP?

Just wondering if anyone here has successfully used the non-fouler trick to get rid of a CEL after deleting their cats. If so, which size non-fouler did you need, and did one work, or did you need to use two?

Thanks!

Whats the theory behind it? Is it just a resistor showing the PCM the correct voltage or is actually a small chunk of cat "honeycomb" material?

Sorry, maybe I should've explained better...

There are two ways to get rid of that CEL--One is to splice a resistor into the sensor wire (or buy one of the MIL-eliminator kits that are essentially the same thing)

The other way is to use a spark plug non-fouler to extend the sensor a little ways out of the exhaust stream. This is the method I'm leaning towards, since it's just as simple and effective, but more easily reversible. I just need to know what size anti-fouler I need, or if it doesn't really matter. I did a quick product search for them, and they are coming up as vehicle-specific (since they are designed to use with spark plugs). But if the the only thing that varies is the exact depth or some other little details, as long as the threading is the same, then I guess it wouldn't really matter.

hmm let me know as well because I might be doing some thing similar with the exhaust

Well, if I don't get any replies by tonight, I'll probably just stop in on the way home and pick one up... they're only a couple bucks.

Well it worked on Misubishi products, we just stacked a number of washers on an EVO and it worked out fine.

Hmmm, well, I might try getting rid of one of the non-foulers then. No sense in having that sensor sticking 4" out of the pipe if I don't have to.

Jay, how does the MSP sound with no cats on the ebay muffler today? I can't wait to hear.... /offtopic

Dude, it's loud! Not quite as loud as when I had the mega-JDM exhaust leak at the catback flange (muffler mender seems to have sealed up that joint pretty well!), but it's got a roar to it.

Can't wait to hear it once I get my new turbo in, and I'm boosting like normal

Are you boosting at all with that last fix @ Morries? Any new news on tubro warranty replacement?

Didn't get the last fix done. I'm going to wait until the turbo gets in from Mazda Japan and get it all done at once. Should be nice once I get everything done, since the intake manifold runners (that change the length of the intake tract at different rpms) are the other malfunction.
I'm boosting a bit, but I have to wind the engine out past 3500 rpms just to get any real boost, where I'd be hitting full boost by around 2700 before. The midpipe actually made a huge difference in getting the turbo to spool more quickly.

So they're definitley fixing it for you? That's good. Its too bad the car is having these kinds of problems at 35k miles....

Yup, as long as they don't freak out about my exhaust! And it's actually closer to 45k miles. At least it's still while I'm under the factory warranty...
