Opinions on changing oil first thing when you get your new mazda?

So right after I drove my car home from the dealer I changed the oil. Now it wasn't exactly just off the truck, it must have been test driven ALOT it had 240miles on it. Now some people seem to think that there are "special" detergents in the oild that comes with a car and that it should not be changed till after like 5000 miles. While I tend to disagree and think as long as you run non synth at first you are good. Thoughts?

I think it's a good idea to make your first oil change interval short in order to flush out any metallic fragments that might end up in the oil due to the break-in process. However, I would've waited till 1000-1500 miles.... At 250 miles, you're still in the middle of the break-in period. Even if the car had the piss driven out of it during test drives.

I agree 100% with Jay. You may want to let the next oil change go a bit.

When it comes to oil there are a lot of schools of thought . Some say change it every 3000 some say 5000 and everything in the middle. You need to make up your own mind.

I don't think they put "special" oil in the car at the factory. I do agree that it's beneficial to do your first oil change early...I did mine at 2,000 miles, then went synthetic at 5,000.

Right. Worst case scenario, you wasted a bit of money changing it too soon. I'd do another change around 2000-2500 (total miles), and then start with your regular intervals.

Yea the metal dust from the machining process was my reasoning to change it first thing. I figure that the engine operates at at what ever many thousands of RPMs so that will work the metal dust into the oil pretty quick so just change it straight away.
