Rust spot that might leak?

So I just bought a 98 Altima and I noticed there is on spot on the roof, right where the windshield seal meets the roof that is rusting. Corey's dad said I will need to patch this or it will start leaking (its literally right under the seal part). I was wondering what I should use for this job and what the best way to go about it is. Taya had a similar problem with rust around where they had put her windshield in. What I did was take a brillo pad and scrub the shit out of the rust, so that the metal was shiny again. I then filled the gap and anywhere rust might get in with silicone caulk, like you'd use to seal a sink to a counter. After that I hit it with a coat of cheap rattle can primer, so stop water from getting in wherever it wasn't caulked, and finished the whole thing off with some aluminum tape to REALLY seal the area up. Not professional, and kinda ugly, but it worked, and to this date, the car has not leaked again.

Its not a very big spot but I guess my main concern is it not leaking and ruining the inside of my car as well. How long did this all take you and abaout how much did it cost?

What color is the car. You may be able to come pretty close with the caulk color depending on the car. Otherwise the clear stuff can be pretty unnoticeable.

My mom just used a strip of red duct tape on her old Shadow, and that worked, so a color match to the tape might also help it to look better.

Make sure the area is completely dry inside first, otherwise you may just seal in water that has already penetrated the area and make things worse.

The car is tan. My aim is to have it not leak but still have it look as neat as possible.

The Caulk idea may be your best bet. I'd try and clean it up as much as possible first, make sure its dry and try and get rid of any existing rust. If you post a pic we might be able to offer better suggestions.

I have clear caulk at home somewhere too. I could probably just do it myself if I had the time.

I could all the suplies I need at checker yes? I am sure I could do this myself under supervision of corey's dad (just to make sure I do a good enough job) but it all depends on my wrist.

Actually, everything I needed, I got a Home Depot. Can of Rustoleum primer, some copper brillo pads, and a tube of generic silicone caulk.

They make silicone caulk in an off-white color that won't be a perfect match T, but it'll be close enough that people probably wouldn't notice when you were driving around.
