Sidemarker question

i have some questions regarding the sidemarkers on the MS3.

if i was to get a pair of blacked-out sidemarkers, is there a way to put LED bulbs in the sidemarkers? I ask because i have/had clear sidemarkers on my Lumi with LEDs installed and they seem to make a huge difference in appearance at night:

in the front i have HID white LEDs and in the rear (after getting harassed by a cop about "blue" lights i changed them) i have a pair of super Red LEDs:

so are the sidemarker lights upgradeable to LEDs?

Nope, you won't.

The sidemarkers in the mazda3/speed3 have the bulb integral with the sidemarker housing. If you want to replace the bulb with an LED, you'll have to buy an aftermarket LED sidemarker--housing and all. I believe they have a few on ebay, otherwise check out the lighting sponsors on mazda3forums.com

Here are the two aftermarket LED sidemarkers I know of:

Otherwise, you could certainly dissect the sidemarker housing and hack in an LED bulb, I'm sure. But I'd see if you could locate a spare set first, just in case.

On the other hand, simply hitting the sidemarkers with a shot of NiteShades worked well for me. Tom (mndsm) has my old smoked sidemarkers on his black speed3, if you ever wanted to see how they would turn out.

One other thing, IIRC the sidemarkers on the MS3 do not light up other than as turn signals. So if you're hoping for similar looks at night to the Lumina you'd have to rewire them somehow. Otherwise, it's up to you if LED sidemarkers are worth it just as turn signals.

thanks, i think i'll just get the turn sigs and not bother with upgrading the bulbs. But i will go with the blacked out reflectors for sure to complete the "Stealth" look that i want to go for. Niteshading hasn't been something i'm talented at lol.

Bah, Niteshades is easy! It's almost impossible to screw up on something as small as the sidemarkers. If you want them smoked, we'll get them smoked

well it would be a hell of a lot cheaper then $120 for the sidemarkers, and $69/pair for the reflectors lol. i want to darken them the best i can, i have heard of some people using tint to , but it sounded like they had to redo it every couple of months.

Mine came off of Jay's 05 and they had been smoked close to a year before I got them. They've been on my car a year and look fine. I'd be happy to show them to you sometime.

Superbrightleds.com is a great site. I've purchased from them a couple times and got some LEDs replaced under the 1 year warranty as well.

That oil cap is the whole reason I traded my 6 for the MS3

I got the LED's in my license plate lights from Superbrightleds.com, couldn't be happier.
