Talk/News Radio

Post up your local favorite stations/programs!

I'll go through periods where I just don't feel like listening to music while I'm driving, but during those times I can never seem to find good talk/news stations to listen to. My main gripe with talk radio is that every single program I have heard seems to be nothing but a place where some arrogant jackass of a host simply rants for 2 hours about a single inane topic, and condescendingly dismisses every caller who tries to disagree with them. I try to listen sometimes in the hopes that an intelligent discussion will ensue, but it always turns out that the program should be called "listen radio" instead of "talk radio", because that's all that happens--everyone gets to listen to the host talk about how right he is. Just once I'd like to find a talk radio show where people actually hold engaging 2-sided discussions....

NPR is okay... WCCO always seems to have something utterly uninteresting going on whenever I tune in though.

Anyways, suggestions? favorites?

NPR's segment on college binge drinking makes me want to puke. I hate talk radio.

I had sirius for a couple months. It was FTL. The music stations blew (especially since it was basically sub-mp3 quality), and there was no decent talk either... just the same BS I can get through my normal radio, except more people have heard of the hosts.

Also, last I saw it, my sirius antenna was stuck to the wooden fence on the side of Porkys' parking lot. lol

It's not quite talk radio, but I often listen to Jazz 88 on the commute to/from work. They cover news headlines and do traffic reports every 10 minutes, and the jazz keeps me calm while I dodge all the idiot drivers around me. Plus, no commercials!

NPR is hit and miss. Depends on the program. Weekends are better with Car Talk, This American Life, etc.

I listen to certain shows on KFAN AM1130. But I'm into sports. But a lot of what's on KFAN isn't about sports. Particularly the Common Man 12-2pm. That guy makes me laugh. Most people don't get that his show is a bit - 2 hours of sarcasm basically.

Other than that, there isn't really any great talk radio. They're all just like those political argue fests on MSNBC, FOXNEWS, CNN etc.

Oh and for a radio station where you won't here the same song every half hour, they have NPR news updates, music group interviews, and no commercials try The Current 89.3

I love pretty much the entire KFAN lineup. I listen to that station pretty much whenever I am in my car. The Patriot 1280 is good for some laughs every now and then. Otherwise, I will listen to the basics, 830, 1500...

I checked it out on the way home today. It is a bit easier to putz along in the slow lane when listening to jazz than punk. That's good for the wallet.... hehe
It doesn't really make me drive slower, but it keeps me from wanting to kill everyone I see. I have at least one near-miss every day.

I'm a sirius guy. Love it for the selection, and I generally listen to the CNN talk, NFL talk, or Playboy radio when I'm not listening to music. CD quality it isn't, variety it is.

A proud MPR member right here! I mostly do up their podcasts, as reception at my work is hit and miss. Marketplace, Marketplace Money, American Radioworks, Radio Lab, Speaking of Faith (actually listening to this right now), Midmorning, the Policast, and, my fav, Talk of the Nation Science Friday.
