Two Amazing 2013 Events - Itasca Clubhouse and Stockholm Motorsports Karting

Picklz

Alright so I figured I'd get things started early on these two event's that i'd REALLY like to get going for Spring/Summer/Fall of 2013. Both of these events are going to require us to get our deposits in early and thus I need some commitment (SCARY I KNOW) from people early on in the game. This thread is to see who would be interested, each event has the details listed so here they are:

Itasca State Park Clubhouse:

Finalized! http://www.mnmazda.com/forum/showth...abin-Clubhouse-Trip-Sunday-September-8th-2013

We did this event a number of years ago (2008), and it was an absolute blast. Ask anyone that was on this trip and I suspect they will have fond memories - James, Eddy, Joe, Dan, Swany, etc. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure from the 2008 trip:

Itasca state park has an old turn of the century log clubhouse/cabin that we can rent - it has a HUGE open common area for people to play cards, chill, hangout, whatever in, and then also has 10 bedrooms, and 5 bathrooms. Awesome screen porch area, a fire ring, etc. It's in amazing Itasca state park which has lake itasca which provides fishing opportunities, kayak/canoe/pontoon rental, bike rentals, hiking trails, the headwaters of the Mississippi, etc. Last time we did our fair share of drinking as well.

Currently there are only a few dates available to reserve this - the one's that look most attractive are Sunday September 8th or Sunday September 15th, yes both are a Sunday so it would require taking Monday off of work. Kelsey and I would probably head up Friday or Saturday for some camping shenanigans beforehand and then stay in the cabin Sunday night with everyone. Details: 10 bedrooms 7 full beds | 7 twin beds - can sleep up to 21 people (2 per full, 1 per twin).

The cost for this is $470 (for the 1 night) - so, if we have 10 people its $47/person, 15 people = $31. 33/person, etc. Pretty damn cheap! I'm going to need to get this booked soon and will need at least 10 people in to get this going - I will need 1/2 down (non refundable) within 30 days after I reserve and then the other half 3 weeks prior to the event. Bedrooms will be chosen in the order people are registered - full beds go to couples first.

Interested so far:

Jay & Nanami

Stockholm Motorsports Kart Racing

I've tried to get this going a couple times - but it's yet to go through. Let's hope this time (whatever it is) is the charm!

Stockholm Motorsports Park is west of the cities and is an amazing Karting facility. They have some of the fastest Kart rentals in the state and a very nice track. This event would be for a minimum of 10 people - at $70/person maximum, the more people we get the cheaper it would be. That would include practice time, two 8 lap qualifying races, and a 12 lap main event race. Awards will also be presented to the top 3 finishers in the main event.

Breakdown is $695 for 10 people - each additional racer add's $40 to the total and there is also a timing/scoring option for $125 (need to get more information on this). Total cost would be split evenly between all racers. I don't have date's for this yet - if I get at least 10 people interested I'll call and get more details / dates for this - a deposit will be required but I'll hash out the details if people are interested. I'd like to try and shoot for May/June for this but will depend on interest level and availability of the course.

So there are only single nights available at the lodge? Hate to be a debbie downer but I think it's going to be tough to get many people in for a single night stay. HOWEVER... I think it could be pretty awesome to get a fri/sat camping trip together and then cap it off with an epic night at that lodge.

Thoughts on that?

As to the karting, any idead how much actual driving time that translates to? I've been wanting to do this long enough that I really want to say I'd be in on this.

I would be fine trying to roll in an optional long-weekend type camping trip into the Cabin trip. Kelsey and I would probably be planning to do that anyway since we have some other things we'd like to see/do up in that area.

Last time (08) we just did a single night and it was awesome, sort of a cruse + overnight trip, but again there's campsites at the park and other places to camp nearby so it could be an either/or thing, if people want to spend more than one night go up the Fri or Sat before and camp 1-2 nights, if not just head up Sun early and go home Monday.

For those unaware Itasca state park is off Hwy 71 north of Park Rapids probably 15-20 miles, it's between park rapids and Bemidji. Probably about a 3-3.5hr drive or so from the Cities.

As far as the karting it's supposed to be ~2 hours - not sure of all the details at this point as far as if everyone is on the track that long or what but it sounds like a fairly decent amount of time.

Ah, I didn't realize that the trip was only overnight last time. Well here's to hoping I'm wrong!

I know for sure if Nanami and I go, we'd be doing some camping the night or two before, whether alone or as a group so I think with this much advance notice you can go ahead and count us as in!

Hayden and Jay - are you in for both camping and karts, or just one or the other?

If I'm down for anything it will be the cabin, but don't put me down just yet...I'll figure it out...cost of course wouldn't be an issue, it's getting Nicole to keep Oliver for a couple extra days that weekend. I like the idea of camping somewhere else before as well, but that wouldn't happen for me...I'd be lucky to make it to the cabin portion. Hope I can make this work. He'll be starting kindergarten at that time so we need to figure out that before I commit. Time to enroll him.

Put Jana and I down for the cabin. Those bedrooms where comfy enough and that shit was a good time. The only thing that might change us going is if we end up going to Germany this summer, that would limit the use of any PTO for anything else. Even with that, likely fine since it's later in the year.

Excellent - if we get a few more for the cabin we'll get a finalized thread going and talk about deposits and such so we can get a date locked in! Feel free to pass this along to people that may not visit often.

Also for anyone that hasn't gone Karting before it's badass - even Prokart is pretty fun and stockholm is even better!

You can probably call me (+ Nanami) in 100% for the cabin, and 90% for the karting. It's been so long since I've done real karts that I just want to do it again.

Well well, we already have 10 interested parties for the Clubhouse trip, and I suspect some more might be on-board so I think we should look at trying to get it booked. Is there anyone on the list already that can't make Sunday September 8th work? That's the weekend I'd like to target.

What I'd like to do for deposits is go with $25 per person - if we get enough and it comes in less than that you'll get refunds, if it's more everyone will need to pay the remainder prior to the trip. If you need to bow out after putting a deposit down and can find someone to take your spot they can pay their deposit back to you, if you can't find someone the deposit will be non-refundable.

Cool. I'll make double-sure with the missus tonight so we get it on our calendar, so just let us know where to send the deposits.

I'm sorry, but it's a Monday several months out. School or work, you have time to take it off and work around it. The question should be, will you make time for the cabin trip or not, if you won't make the time, bow out for the initial planning.
