well I got gentoo running on my old computer still couldn't get to far with ubuntu even on my old comp. But still no luck with linux on the new rig.

you got gentoo running but cant get ubuntu?! thats crazy talk 
gentoo is all command line based install, ubuntu is all gui'd, unless your hardware isnt compatible it should be a cake walk

Gentoo is a gui now. But it didn't really help me because it wasn't on the comp that I needed to get it running on. So that comp is probly incompatible.

Well since you said old pc i thought you meant you tried it a long time ago. I used gentoo gui to install on my pc...yeah no luck what so ever, could only do it by command line. Debian is a gentoo based package distro too thats pretty nice.

By old PC I just meant not my new build that I just made. It's a pretty good sytem amd dual core opteron 165 @ 2.7Ghz, 2 gig ram, nvidia 7800gt. I was mainly trying to get linux on my new build since I don't have any OS on it yet.
