Hey guys, Just picked up an 06 MS6 from Morrie's Hyundai and I wasn't able to figure out pre-purchase that it needed the VVT redone...sooo...I've got a local shop that I trust doing the repair work for me. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on using something like the Darrell Cox Racing VVT or some other aftermarket VVT versus the OEM unit? Is it worth it or would I be better served getting the upgraded unit?

Eeek. That sucks, unpleasant surprise. That being said you may as well make improvements as things wear out given the lack of warranty... I can't speak to any of those options but I'm certain you'll find some good long term reviews out there. JohnnyT had a pretty decked out speed6 here, maybe he can chime in.

Two questions- how long ago did you buy it? And what kind of miles are on it? Because if it's under 70k, it's covered by the TSB. Also, even out of factory warranty, dealers are required by law to provide a 30 day warranty on the car.
could you explain TSB ?? for those less aware.

Is this the same Smus from MidwestLSx? Regardless, congrats on the pickup but shitty on the VVT issue.
You really have two options:
1.) Order up DCRs and have your trusted shop do it. Spendy. I haven't read of any issues with their product, but as a company they've had some knocks.
2.) Talk to a service adviser at Morrie's. Explain your situation and they should accommodate the TSB considering you just got the car too. The TSB uses a new factory upgraded piece from the old '06-07 ones and I haven't heard of any issues with the new piece. You should be just fine with it and you should get the issue resolved for free.
Even if option 2 doesn't work out, you can fall back on option 1 either with the DCR piece or the upgraded OEM one. It's worth a shot to talk to Morrie's first.
