I don't think paying alot in taxes is a bad thing, as long as the money is going to the right places... AKA NOT the fucking military.

A definite difference in our point of view. At least "the fucking military" is one of the prescribed powers and responsibilities given to the federal government under the Constitution. I believe government should only act within those specified powers and levy a tax adequate to perform those actions in an efficient manner. Excessive taxation (anything above this level, plus to make significant payment towards the accumulated debt) is a bad thing in my opinion.

have a little respect... i'm guessing your views are coming from iraq or something, but that's not to blame on the military.

I am disgusted with how much money the military gets, not what they use it on. It is unnecessary. I don't hate people in the military, I believe the people in the armed forces are doing what is asked of them and for that they should be praised. But, overall there is just TOO much money going into the military. You could take half of that budget away and still have plenty to 'defend' the USA.

Probably true, it only takes a few nukes :)

What point are you trying to make again?

What does the fact that members of the house and senate make an average of $169k have to do with electing people based on their integrity and principle? People with money can be trust worthy, in some cases they get their money because they worked hard for it.

How does it matter that they make 8 times what you make in a year? That's not the point here. If you want to make more money do something else. Tell me what your point is and we'll continue...

Don't tell me to relax, I'm perfectly calm. I'm just trying to understand your mistrust of people that aren't impoverished.
Zoom Zoom Diva was saying we need to pay them that much or more to attract the right kinds of people. My point is, you should be able to find persons who can do the job or even better without attracting them with great pay. Also its closer to 5-6 times what i make, but whatever thats beside the point.

Makes sense... I thought that you were trying to argue the point that $169k makes you an arrogant ass that's incapable of leading.

Then give me your ideas on how to achieve that! Whatever we are doing now isn't working, and one of the reasons is people can't afford to. Personally, I believe that public office needs to compete for labor just like any other position, and the compensation is a critical component to attracting people.

The bullshit is inevitable. Republicans aren't the only politicians who can be a pain in the ass. The kind of childish play that comes out around election time always has the effect of making me feel completely apathetic about the election. Maybe jaded is a better word than apathetic.... It's not that I dont care, it's just that the candidates inevitably degrade themselves into immature name-calling children and the idea of supporting any of them makes me kind of sick.

I guess you can't blame them too much though. They wouldn't engage in that sort of drivel if it wasn't for the fact that the majority of americans care more about who has the slickest sound byte than who would actually be a capable leader of the country.
