Mafia 4 - Night 2, Deadline 10/7 9pm

An idea to think about. Since we have a cop, a doctor and a scum role blocker can we simply play out this strategy at least for day 1: Cop claims himself right away. We all vote no lynch for day one. Doctor hides himself but protects the cop. Scum won't try to kill the cop since he'll be protected by the doctor. Scum will likely try to kill the doctor, which is a long shot but a risk we could take. After nightfall, we find out the cop's result as well as who scum killed. Even if scum role block the cop we can at least find out who the cop tried to investigate - giving us discussion for day 2.

Thoughts?

Sorry, I should have posted this in the rules...

There is no guarantee of BOTH a cop and a doctor... There MAY be both, there MAY be one or the other...

There are four possible setups for town:
1. 5 VT, Cop and Doc
2. 6 VT, Cop
3. 6 VT, Doc
4. 7 VT

It is a mystery as to which it is though.

You have actually just outlined why the cop and doc are NOT both guaranteed.

How DOES JT know there's a mafia roleblocker?

Because I wasn't given the above information - I assumed the role PMs Dan listed were what this game entailed, not the possibility some can be excluded.

Good vote though, don't even give me a chance to explain my reasoning.

I think Dan should have not posted that information. But he did.

Now I can look at it and see that JT did jump to a couple conclusions....... Odd but ok.

I then see THom jump one the first person that even kinda could be scum.

I read your reasoning. There would not be a roleblocker without some form of role to block, or at least i'd think so. All dan pointed out was that there may be a doc and a cop, or one or none. Which means...... I still stand by my assumption. Dan didn't indicate whether or not the roleblocker is optional. It IS theoretically possible to have one without a role to block, but that would be stupid. My vote stands.

and the plot thickens........

JT's suggestion (without the information of optional roles from Dan) seems appropriate to me.
It would have made this first lynching a little more logical/strategic.

Thom..... I'm not so sure about him now, since we cried wolf so quick on JT.

The information about the setup is pretty important. I have updated one of the original posts to be more clear about this. I specified what the setup would be in the signup thread, but I should have posted it here as well. My bad about that.

I suppose it's possible. However, the likelihood of JT posting that while combing through the rules looking for one little inconsistency... I don't know that I believe. JT is a smart dude. Lets say we vote NL day one. That might work GREAT, but we're already giving up a day of possible investigation, and giving the scum a free kill. I can't see any place where NL day one would benefit town. Town gets a limited number of swings at scum, scum keeps plugging away and can pick town off as slowly as they need to. Gotta remember. Scum knows who scum is. No one else does.

Guys, here's what Dan posted in the signup thread:

Since I've volunteered to mod this clusterfuck, I hereby declare a standard setup...

9 players: 7 town/2 mafia

Town will have 5-7 vanilla townies, and POSSIBLY a Cop and/or doctor.
Mafia will have a standard mafioso as well as a mafia roleblocker.
After he posted that this was my reply:

I think for townies we had both a cop and doctor for the first game - we should keep a similar set-up to that one.
Since I saw in the role PMs Dan listed the cop and doctor I assumed they were in this game. Now, Dan has clarified there's a chance one could be, both could be, or neither.

At this point, all I want to do is gather discussion. I want to hear thoughts on strategy, like I posted earlier. We have plenty of time to help formulate together who we should lynch, or even if we should lynch anyone. I know Dan's stated earlier it's not a smart move but we should try to gather factual evidence first and have zero doubt about lynching someone (even if they turn out to be townies we should all still be 100% sure at the time of lynch). I'd actually like to try and play the game how it's normally played, not trolling the shit out of it.

Who's trolling? Other than my smartass post about Eddy- Everything i've done is in the effort to gather information. Sometimes, you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette, you know? It'd be pretty easy to sit the 9 of us down and say, ok... gather facts. Obviously the people with the most to gain by lying are the scum. I could tell you I was the president of earth, and for the purposes of this game, you'd not REALLY know any better. The trick here is... rattle them cages. Clearly I've rattled yours.

I don't think giving up a swing at scum is a good move, I think we need to start taking shots right off the bat and hope we get lucky.

With the two of you going back and forth, part of me is already thinking it's a safe bet one of you are on the dark side of things. I'm just not sure which one yet...

To be fair they are the ones doing most of the posting so far. So it's only to be expected they would be engaged in some back and forth. I don't know if that's scummy in and of itself. Seems to me that the safest play for scum early on is to play it cool and wait for town to start picking on another town, then help build momentum. Then again all bets are off first round. Most suspicious thing I've seen so far is suggestions that we aim for a no lynch on the first day.

SUDO Make me a SAMCH
When I originally read JT's suggestion of No Lynch on day 1, I immediately thought scum...however...if you read through his reasoning...IF all 3 of the roles (2 town / 1 scum) were in the game, it would make a lot of sense to play that way, and as Dan said is precisely the reason why the roles are not a guarantee. Now that Dan has clarified things it sounds to me that JT is no longer advocating a no lynch on Day 1.
