Mafia 4 - Night 2, Deadline 10/7 9pm

What reason would Town have to say this?
Because either A- he's playing the ballsy Eddy move... or B- he's smart and getting people to look right past him.
Dang, I almost missed that because I was browsing on my phone last night.

Anyhow, that might have worked on the first clusterf... er, I mean game. But really it brings up one of two possibilities: 1) He's scum and trying to hide in plain sight, as it were. Or 2) He's town but is not playing straight. In option 1, lynching would be a no brainer. In option 2, if we were to falsely lynch a townie, we may as well lynch a townie who's not going to be any help to us. I'm holding out my vote for now, but in the absence of anything more concrete evidence, Kris would have my vote.

If you guys read my first couple posts in this thread and immediately thought I was scum, I wouldn't be doing a good job trying to blend in with the town. Think about it...

I don't think Tom is either. He jumped on me pretty quick without giving me defense, but a townie's first sniff at scum is probably like blood to sharks. It'd be a stupid move for a scum to try and get a rally vote going, especially after only a few posts, and I know Tom's not that dumb (Eddy is though).

So your argument is that by poorly disguising your (hypothetical) scumminess, you are less likely to be scum. See my previous post for a rebuttal on that.

I'm not saying I saw anything necessarily scummy in your posts, but I don't lend any weight to the argument that because a scummy action was obvious or poorly disguised/explained, that person is any less likely to be scum.

I would agree, even on the remote chance he is scum (which if it was the case would be an easy win for us), the townie not helping would potentially have my vote.

I'm also on the fence with JT or Tom with that back and forth action... I have a gut feeling that it could very well be one of those two.

Not so much blood to sharks- more to the point, you made what could very well be a critical mistake. If you ARE scum, that was a genuinely stupid move. If you're not, it was still a pretty stupid move because it smacks of scum-mentality. "I know, Let's NOT vote, and give Scum a free kill! BRILLIANT!"- that's about what I got out of that whole line of thinking. Does us no good to flush out any potential roles that people might be playing, because obviously those become known and get dropped. And really, voting NL on day one- and everyone agreeing to it? Well shit, no one's in danger then, and in no need to fight for their lives, which means that the defense arguments would be lackadaisical at best... and we'd really get no information. I don't see how this would have benefitted town AT ALL.

Tom, I read up on some strategies for this game and came across it - seemed like a good plan since I wanted to try and avoid the mess of the last game. If our game has those roles it's pretty much a guaranteed win for town.

Even if we assume that all the roles are in the game as JT did - I'm still not sure I buy this being a good idea.

So if we assume all roles are in the game, and the cop goes public with his role, The Scum Roleblocker is going to role-block the cop because the cop outed himself, and scum obviously isn't going to want a cop sniffing around. Sure the doctor can protect the cop every round if he wants, but the scum can just roleblock the cop every round negating his effectiveness and still kill one of us.

Could JT and Tom both be scum and they are just putting on a show? I don't really feel like that's the case here, but it's a strategy I've seen used before.

Can scum PM themselves and/or chat outside of this thread?

edit..... During regular "day" time" Obviously scum can chat at "night".

Fair question - The rules stated they could talk before the game started, and at night...so I would guess that means no talking privately during the 'day', that's how it has been played in past games as well. Dan could we get clarification on that?

I don't see how.... that's giving scum a 1-up right off the bat.
They get to knife someone regardless if we lynch or not. It's either a possible scum is lynched and for sure a townies knifed, or two townies die (one lynched, one knifed). The more townies we have the longer the game goes on, which I'd think is better for town since we find out who scum's knifing and hopefully along the way we can get investigation details helping us more accurately pinpoint scum (if we have that role).

I'm open to other suggestions, don't get me wrong. Day 1's just tough to make an informed decision and I'd rather not start lynching people at random.

Scum CANNOT talk outside of this thread during day time. ONLY during the night, they are allowed to PM each other.

I don't know that I buy that. Town has 5 days to weed out scum, at max- before it becomes a no win on towns part. You want to give up one of those days right off the hoof? I'd say it's smarter to go down swinging and at least take a shot. It's like standing there and LETTING Overeem pummel your face, or at least swinging and praying you land the one blow that's going to knock him out. Not to mention, Scum is probably going to start offing the people that are actually playing the game, and let the no-posts/etc hang out, because it's clear that they're not paying as close attention. So IMO, we need to use all the time we can use to ferret the scum out, and that would include a lynch on day 1.

A seemingly innocuous question, but why ask unless your scum and are trying to pass suspicion. Because what scum wants to peak that kind of interest on the first day.

But lynching one of your own cuts down numbers. With scum only accounting for two votes, the lower the townie number, the faster townie can get picked off as those 2 votes hold more of the total percentage.

My question was in response to Picklz comment of JT and Thom both being scum. If scum are able to PM prior to the first night, then right now day one, they both know who the scum are.
If I have the rules right, two people know they are scum, but they DO NOT know who the other scum is. So for this particular first round, they are at a slight disadvantage. Starting day two they'll be able to work together.

Danno.... do I have that right?

I agree with this. Townies need to stick together and not rock the boat.

You only need 5 votes to lynch so scum will not have the advantage until there is only three people left. before that they can only account for 40% of the vote. Town will have 60%
