Anyone know how to do a complete tranny flush? the dealership wants 159$ to flush and replace with synthetic

I haven't looked, but their should generally be a drain plug, and then a filler hole. I don't know if I'd do more than that for worrying, drain it and filler back up.

Otherwise, Hit up a Valvaline Oil change place. Jana just got her Prisim done there a week ago for $89.99, and they use that machine you're probably looking for.

I was told that you don't flush a manual, just drain and fill.

No, manuals dont have a filter. Just a drain and fill is more than enough. I would grab some Redline to add to it. But, make sure others out there have used it with success. I know that the 3 and 6 like the stuff, but I am mpt certain about the protege. Otherwise you can always use the OEM fluid. But I would really look into Redline synthetic. Hell, you can even ask the LSE guys about it tomorrow if you are going to be at the dyno day. Plus, they sell it right there.

I just recently changed my tranny fluid to Redline MT-90. It smoothed out shifting a little bit, but nothing to dramatic.

Syncromesh is a similar product to Redline, from my understanding. I have mainly used Redline on my vehicles in the past and have really had good luck with it.

I got amsoil (sp.) full synthetic gear oil that's 5 something? syncromesh is like 4 or whatever and my tranny calls for 5 so I'm glad that I didn't get the syncromesh stuff or I would have put lube in that didn't work.

What all do you have to do for a transmission flush and fill for a mazda 3 ATX? I'm heading to Duluth next weekend and want to get it done before then.

Well, the ATX holds something like 9 quarts of fluid. But you can only drain and refill about 3 quarts at a time. To do a true flush/fill you need special equipment to flush the entire system and refill completely with fresh fluid. If you want to DIY, you can do a series of drain/fills spaced a couple hundred miles apart (fresh fluid each time) and approximate a "real" flush and fill. Otherwise you're pretty much stuck having it done by a shop.
